Tips for Planning Baby’s First Birthday Party this Summer

If it seems like your little one was practically born yesterday and now you’re already planning their first birthday party, you might want to brace yourself for how fast it all goes from here. In the meantime, gear up for a special birthday celebration for your little one. Here are five tips for planning baby’s first birthday party.

Invite a Few People

For a first birthday party celebration, it’s best to keep the guest list reasonable as to not overwhelm yourself or your baby. Opt out of inviting the whole neighborhood and focus mainly on inviting family members and close friends. If your baby goes to daycare, you might invite babies they spend the most time with. Or, if your baby spends a lot of time with grandpa and grandma but no one else, just ask them over for a nice get-together to celebrate. Too many guests could prove to be overwhelming for your little one, and that’s the last thing you want.

Choose a Simple Summer Theme

If you have a summer baby, plan on having the party outside somewhere fun such as a park or playground. If you have a kid-friendly backyard, that’s always an option as well. You just need the cake, balloons, snacks, and a table to put them on. Don’t get too carried away with the décor, hiring clowns, or planning a bunch of activities. Safety and simplicity should be at the forefront of party planning. Treat the party as a fun playdate for 1-year-olds.

Give Goodie Bags

The birthday boy or girl will likely get a fair share of gifts to celebrate their one-year milestone. It’s a nice gesture to provide the little guests with their own party favors to keep them occupied while the guest of honor opens presents. Some nice baby gifts for young guests include plush animals, fabric books, and cute bath sets.

The Cake

Create messy memories with a smash cake—a small birthday cake made just for a baby’s first birthday to do as they please with. Just like it sounds, a smash cake is for the birthday kid to smear, pound, and eat with tiny fingers. It’s your baby’s first birthday cake, you might as well go for it! If the thought of a whole mini cake made to smash is a little much to deal with, consider smash cupcakes instead. No matter what you choose, the photos will still be priceless.

Plan Around Nap Time

Depending on when your baby usually naps, try to aim for earlier in the day rather than later for a birthday party. A brunch party or early afternoon gathering is probably the sweet spot for infants and toddlers. A party that’s an hour or two long is plenty of time for socializing, eating cake, and opening presents.

The first year of life is full of firsts worth celebrating. When shopping for milestone gifts to commemorate special moments for your baby, someone else’s, or for your customers in your shop, seek out somewhere that sells wholesale baby gifts and helps families make the most of these moments.
